2024 Hopeful Prep Camp

Who & What:
The Hopeful Prep Camp is the continuation of a camp which began in 1967. This year will mark a 57-year long tradition, though the format has evolved over the years. This camp is open to all ages, and is run in a clinic format with options listed below. Check the paradisecreek.ponyclub.org for updates!

Duration & Format of the Prep:
The prep will begin at noon on Wednesday, June 26th, continue all day Thursday, and Friday. You are welcome to arrive Wednesday morning, or Tuesday afternoon for those coming from further away (contact Lisa *see below* with Tuesday arrival requests). The first lessons will begin at 12pm on Wednesday. The lesson schedule will be sent to the email provided on the entry form by June 24th.

Maximum of 4 lessons per horse, or 6 lessons per rider (if bringing a second horse) Intended format: 1 lesson Wednesday, 2 lessons Thursday, 1 lesson Friday. You may sign up for fewer than 4. We are opening up Friday as a chance for additional cross-country lessons, and to utilize the second part of the course. Please be very detailed on the entry form as to your riding level so that we may place you in appropriate group (based on ability, age, certification & need).

Lesson offerings: Wednesday (afternoon/evening)
Thursday (all day) and Friday (morning/early afternoon)

Dressage lessons Private lessons (1 rider – 45min $75/ea.) will be limited, and available on a first come, first served basis. Semi-private (2 riders – 60 min –
$50/ea.) or group (3 to 4 riders – 60min – $25/ea.)

Group Stadium Jumping lessons 60min; (3 to 4 riders) - $25/each

Cross-Country Lesson 1.5 hours; (3 to 4 riders - $45 each) Schooling jumps with an instructor. Additional time Friday, with opportunity to school at the water, bank, and onto the second half of the course. 2 cross country lessons max per horse.

Instructors:
• Piper Newman – New to Deary in 2024! Piper is a USPC Graduate B/HA, has earned her USDF Bronze, Silver, and ½ of her Gold Medals, and competed through Preliminary eventing. Piper was a working student and then assistant trainer at Aspen Farms with Jonathan & Suzy Elliott for the past 6 years, and has been teaching PCers all along!
• Mary Brown – Returning to teach and judge at the Hopeful, Mary is a USDF Bronze & Silver Medalist & USDF “L” Judge Graduate with Distinction, now working towards her “r” judging credentials. Mary has been teaching, judging, training, and riding in the Inland Northwest for many years.
• Liz Tukey – USEA ICP Level II Instructor, competed through Preliminary, and former USPC National Examiner. She has, ridden, taught, & trained in the Northwest for many years, and recipient of the USEA Cornerstone Award.
• Morgan Shank – Longtime Inland Empire Region member, turned supporter, instructor and examiner, Morgan is a USPC Graduate HA, has competed through Preliminary, and trains and teaches in the Spokane, WA area.


Directions
From Moscow: Go East on Highway 8, pass through Troy, and keep traveling east through Deary (about 3 miles past Deary. Shortly after mile marker #29, turn left into a dirt driveway, “Pony Club Road.” Look for signs. Physical address: 5420 Highway 8, Deary, Idaho, 83823

Terrain & Camping
Wooded, rolling hills. Camping on grounds, no hook-ups. Hotels available in Moscow, ID (25 miles)
One camping fee is included with each stall fee. Additional camping units = $10/night.
Spectators coming in and are planning to stay the night need to be aware there will be a camping fee. Please check in at the cook shack/event office.

NO VAPING, SMOKING, OR MARIJUANA use on the grounds.

Stabling: Nearly all 12x12 pipe panel stalls (not covered). A few of the old 10x10 railroad tie/pipe stalls without doors, so let us know if you want one of those for old times’ sake! Bring your own shavings (no straw allowed) Stalls are limited and will be assigned upon receipt of complete entry. Stalls must be clean & stripped at the end of use.

No early arrival (prior to Wednesday AM) without prior approval.  $20 per night

Telephone: Cell phone service is improving, and usually accessible on the top of the hill  and in the town of Deary. The Deary camp phone number is 208-877-1381, however; you must use a calling card to call out on the landline.

Entries & Waivers: Entry must be complete for stalls to be assigned and for you to ride. All persons planning to ride a horse on grounds must submit signed waivers.

Non-PC -- the non-member waiver must be signed; this includes children and those not competing (“extra” horses will have stabling fees & must sign non-member waiver). Any outstanding accounts need to be settled before your entry will be accepted. You will be notified upon receipt of an entry.

Volunteering -- We run on volunteers! Please check the white boards at the office for jobs we need help with during camp.

Late Entries & Cancellations: We will not accept late entries! We move to Deary and cannot accept entries past the closing date of June 7th. The prep fills fast – get your entry in early to ensure a spot. All cancellation refund requests will adhere to the Cancellation Policy below.

Horse Papers: Coggins Test, Brand Inspections & Health Certificates
An interstate certificate of veterinary inspection (Health Certificate) is required for travel between Idaho, Oregon & Washington, as well as having a current EIA (Coggins) test. Check with your vet for the current requirements – they change almost annually. Brand Inspections are HIGHLY recommended. Please upload a copy of vaccine records for Equine Influenza (Flu) and Equine Herpes (Rhino) within 6 months to the online entry.

Commemorative ‘Deary’ shirts are offered. If interested, you may order a t-shirt ($20), sweatshirt ($30), or hooded sweatshirt ($40). Please indicate shirt size(s) on the entry form:
